How to Select a Floating Turbidity / Silt Curtain

General Characteristics and Applications

How to Select a Turbidity Curtain?

Selecting your Floating Turbidity Barrier, also known as Silt Curtain can be as easy as calling us at +1 (321) 222 9551 and have our experienced personnel assist you or it can be as simply as selecting the type of water condition that you will be working in, such as; calm water (Type 1), moving water (Type 2), or tidal (Type 3).

If you still need help you may also reach us at sales@enviro-usa.com. Either way, contact us and let us help you.

Selecting between a Permeable or Impermeable turbidity curtain is based on how fast the current is, how drastic the tide change is, and or how deep the skirt is. The faster the current, the more drastic the tide change, and or the deeper the skirt (deeper than 5 ft) the silt curtain should be permeable. A permeable skirt prevents ballooning of the skirt and drastically reduces the amount of forces/stress applied on the product.

Please note that we can also manufacture according to your project requirements and or environmental conditions and we do carry accessories such as anchor systems, marker lights, and tow bridles.

Applications Criteria Guide

Type 1 DOT Light Duty Calm Water configuration should be used by contractors building bridges or working in ponds, lakes, canals, or waterways with light wind or calm water conditions.

Normally used by contractors in rivers, inland waterways, harbors, protected ports and lakes. Available as permeable or impermeable.

Type 3 DOT Heavy Duty Tidal Water configuration should be used in areas where considerable current up to 3 knots or 5 ft per second may be present, or in applications where they will encounter rough waters, tidal changes, strong winds and currents.
